My Bio

Hello, my name is Eric (EDB or Outlaw Eric) and I live in Gilman Iowa along with my wife Traci and daughters Tiffany and Brittany. I am a Certified Insurance Counselor and Risk Management Consultant at an insurance agency in Grinnell Iowa. This is a new venture for me as I spent the last 12.5 years as a Senior Commercial Underwriter at The Grinnell Mutual Group.

I wear many hats at the dragstrip, I am a driver and crew-chief on the 1956 Modified/Outlaw Doorslammer, I am the fuel system and ignition guy learning to tune nitromethane on the Nitemare AA/FD owned by Dan and Joanie Russell and I have been known to mix fuel and tune the fuel injection on Scott Gaulter's Nitro Madness AA/FA.

I got my start going to the dragstrip at age 10 with my uncle Dan Bru who had a Jr Fuel (Injected Alcohol) front engine dragster. My early duties were being a gopher, car cleaner, etc. In reality, I probably didn't contribute much, but I kept my eyes and ears open starting to learn about alcohol and fuel Injection.

In my teenage years I helped my uncle Kevin Bru with the original 1956 Chevy Modified Doorslammer. This was a tube frame, alcohol injected doorslammer that ran 6.30s in the 1/8. A very cool and popular car that was probably ahead of its time. Sadly, this car was destroyed in a high speed crash at Eddyville in 1990 when the left front A-Arm collapsed in the shutdown area. Back then, Eddyville had no guard rails past the finish line. With no steering the car collided with a light pole and was destroyed.

Kevin then built the current 1956 Chevy Modified Doorslammer that my parents, David and Carolyn Bru now own. They purchased the car in 2002 when Kevin decided to devote more time to his business and family. He ran it at Eddyville from 1996 to 2000 and won Best Appearing Car and was very popular with the fans. During this time I helped him and also helped pit-crew for Rick Talbert and Bart Ewing. Photos of their Hot Rods can be seen in the Photo Gallery.

When my parents bought the 1956 from Kevin and the engine from Bart Ewing I decided to upgrade the engine's single stage CompuCar Nitrous System into a state of the art nitrous system. Since I needed to learn the ins and outs of mechanical fuel injection Rapid Randy Baker recommended that I become a Hooligan at Jim Harvey's HRE Board, this was the summer of 2005. And not knowing anything about nitrous I was eager to learn. After some checking around I decided that Dave Koehler would be my Nitrous Guru. I joined Dave Koehler's Nitrous Master board in December of 2005.

Since then, I have become a tech junkie... I am a Senior Member at Mike Canter's American Drag Racing Website and an Advanced Member at the MSD Tech Boards specializing in Pro Mags and the Digital 7 line. I am also working on becoming a Skunkworks Tester for them.

Fast forward to 2007 I met with Dan and Joanie Russell in April of 2007 as I wanted to join their Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster team in order to learn all I could about Nitro. Unfortunately we did not get the 1956 Modified/Outlaw to the track in 2007, but she is ready for 2008!!

In the spring of 2008, I consulted with a Business Development Manager at Kestrel to develop the 4250 Racing Weather Tracker for alcohol and nitro racers.

Thank you for checking out our website and if you make it to the dragstrip stop by and say and Hi!! See the News area for updates!
