….Somehow I forgot to do an update after the Newton show.
On Sunday Tiffany, Chad and I met up at Dan & Joanie’s shop to finish loading the transporter and to head over to the (10 mile away) track.
After a few minor delays we got to the track and set about getting the car ready for the 2 (4?) burnouts and passes. Since the Iowa Speedway is a NASCAR track and a NHRA Street Legal track they cannot put down any VHT. This, of course, makes it pretty tricky (impossible) to get a Top Fuel car to hook up.
As the crew got the car ready for the passes Dan & I discussed our game plan. Since there was no track prep we decided to treat this as a burnout followed by a burnout. I softened the fuel tune-up and Dan eased up on the clutch. We knew the car would spin, but we didn’t want to tear up any parts along the way. As we warmed up we adjusted the timing for our relatively soft tuneup and then seated the clutch.
After the post-warm-up maintenance we headed to the staging lanes as we were ready to get on with the show.
We headed out to the track where Nick and I started the car.
I am VERY pleased to announce that Jim Harvey of the www.hre.com website has featured the good ol’ Hot Rod on the November 2008 banner.
I owe a lot to the Hooligans at the HRE site, without their help I would probably still be sitting in the shop trying to figure out what went where…
…but instead, I got out on the track and earned my license!
In preparation for 2009, I am going to get the other 3 stages of nitrous finished along with the needed safety gear (‘chutes, diapers, etc) and be ready to rock in the spring of 2009.
